Mortal threat for a cat - double-glazed windows in ventilation mode 1

Casement windows left ventilated are a deadly threat to any cat. Even the mink that never pretended to...

Usually the animal gets stuck like a cork in a bottle. Finding itself in such a situation, the cat begins to panic and, in desperate attempts to wriggle out of the narrow dead end, receives severe injuries to the spine and internal abdominal organs. The longer and more desperately a cat tries to free itself from the window blinds, the more it injures its body. Usually in such cases the owner is not at home. Then everything depends on how quickly the owner returns home or how attentive and helpful the neighbors are in helping to save the caught animal. It is not so easy to get a caught cat out, because a window opened for winter ventilation must first be closed completely and only then can it be opened wide.

It should be borne in mind that the injuries received by a cat are extremely painful - she is ready to bite and scratch even her savior, so it is recommended to approach her in a thick jacket and gloves.

But as soon as the cat is freed, you need to urgently go to the doctor.

Gets all kinds of injuries

In almost all cases, cats stuck in windows receive a mild or severe spinal contusion, treatment of which lasts about a month - first the cat is x-rayed, then, depending on the severity of the injury, medications are prescribed to reduce swelling and pain, vitamins, and sometimes antibiotics are needed. With injuries to the internal organs of the abdominal cavity, the cat most often dies. Such injuries are practically untreatable, since compression in the cat’s abdominal cavity causes enormous circulatory problems, which subsequently leads to disruption of the blood supply to tissues and internal organs cease to function. Sometimes a cat is brought to the doctor almost cold, and the chances of survival are very small.

Signs that your cat has been injured

  • On the abdomen of a cat (especially if it is a short-haired or hairless cat), you may notice deep furrows in the skin.
  • The cat may be limping.
  • When the spinal cord is contused, it moves with a goose gait - half squatting.
  • The hind legs may be paralyzed.

Note!

Even if the cat initially does not have any outwardly visible signs of injury, a visit to the doctor is required.after all, even in cases where the cat is freed from the trap after just five minutes, the spine has already received a concussion during this time!

How to properly ventilate a room?

  • By opening the packaging window completely and attaching a strong mesh to it.
  • By opening the window in ventilation mode and attaching protective grilles designed for this purpose to it (available in pet stores).
