Egyptian Mau
The history of this cat breed goes back to ancient times. The Egyptian Mau came to us in Europe from Ancient Egypt, as evidenced by its name. There, in Egypt, this animal, personifying the goddess of joy and fertility Bastet, was considered sacred. Love, feminine beauty, and the warmth of the hearth were associated with it. Even in the times of the pharaohs, he was given paintings. And judging by them, it can be noted that the appearance of modern cats of the breed has remained practically the same. And what kind of laws were not dedicated to these cats. So, in the event of a fire, she was the first to be rescued, and if the cat died, the owner expressed a complaint by shaving off his eyebrows. And they even turned cats into mummies and buried them in sarcophagi made of silver and gold, as archaeological excavations prove.
And Natalia Trubetskaya, a Russian princess living in Italy, had a hand in the modern history of this breed. It was she who demonstrated the Egyptian Mau at a specialized cat exhibition. This gave rise to some popularity of these cats. However, Mau in Europe is still very rare, unlike the USA, from where it is quite difficult to import it to Europe.
The Egyptian Mau is distinguished by its speed of movement (up to 58 km/h), even in comparison with the nimble Bengal cat. At the same time, the breed has excellent hearing and excellent vision. These qualities made her a wonderful hunter and provided the opportunity to survive in changing conditions of life to the present day.
Characteristics of the Egyptian Mau
Owners of this cat breed note their amazing devotion. They do not communicate with people they do not know, but they adore their owners and love to stick their curious nose into all their affairs. In the house, they choose one or two family members as their favorite companions. It is clear that they become those who spend more time in games and other activities that are interesting to the pet, because cats of this breed are playful and active animals. They need toys, which the owners need to take care of, otherwise they themselves will find something to play with among your things. In addition, this smart creature takes care of its toys. Do not hide them so as not to create problems for yourself, because the inquisitive cat will force you with her behavior to return the lost item or point to the place where the toy is hidden.
And how pets love games that simulate hunting, where you need to pursue prey. Give them such pleasure, and believe me, you yourself will get a lot of positive emotions from this activity. Well, if you need help to fight rodents, the cat will treat this with all its inherent seriousness and responsibility.
If your pet starts to like high places in the house and open doors or drawers, don’t be surprised. These observers are very capable and easily trained, even if they were not taught this!
Cats love playing with water. They prefer to drink from the tap or splash their paws in the water. By the way, this is very interesting to watch.
The cat won’t particularly annoy its owners with its “talkativeness,” but if it needs, for example, food, you will know about it by wagging its tail and making sounds. It is worth noting that you are not alarmed by the unique waving of its tail; it is not going to mark. She has such a specific manner of communication.
Care and diseases of the Egyptian Mau
This breed is prone to some health conditions: asthma, heart disease and allergies, which does happen, but not to all members of the breed. You just have to be careful when caring for pets, although the care itself is quite simple. Cats love to be brushed, but there is no need to do this more than a couple of times a month, because the animal has short fur and no half-fur. But the claws need to be trimmed regularly, so as not to be offended by the pet later for its “signatures” on the furniture or walls.
You can feed your cat alternating special food and homemade food. Just avoid salty, sour and spicy foods to avoid health problems.
Look after your pet, and he will respond to you with love and will decorate everyday life at home, adding joy to them.
