Korat cat breed
From the history of the breed
This breed is one of the oldest cat breeds. Its roots go back to the reign of one of the dynasties of Siamese kings, and the description of the breed as bringing happiness was recorded in the 19th century in the handwritten Book of Poems about Cats, which is stored in Bangong, in the National Museum of the country.
The birthplace of the breed is Thailand. How many legends exist in the country associated with this cat! Until now, you can see posters there, which depicts a korat, which is a symbol of wealth and success. Religious ceremonies, and secular ones too, cannot do without korats here. They are given to newlyweds for happiness. Buddhist monks perform rites dedicated to the rains, with a korat on their hands, so that the crops do not die from drought.
It borrowed its name, Korat, “cat of happiness” from one of the provinces of Thailand, where numerous colonies of these amazing cats once lived.
In Europe, the breed appeared in the early seventies of the twentieth century from the United States, where it was brought thirteen years earlier.
Korat appearance
To describe the appearance of the Korat breed, it is best to refer to the beautiful, poetic description of it inherent in the East back in those ancient times, in which the color of the cat's coat is described as the color of dark clouds. And the color of large round eyes is compared with the color of tender rice shoots, their radiance is compared with a drop of dew on the leaves of a lotus, a symbol of Buddhist purity.
This description describes very well the appearance of the korat, which has a really beautiful blue coat color with a brilliant silvery sheen. In addition, the coat is delicate, and in terms of density, perhaps, you will not find this in any other cat breed.
In general, the appearance of a korat is somewhat reminiscent of wild cats. This is the shape of the cat's head and muzzle, the size and shape of the ears, and a lion-like nose.
A feature of the breed is that the color of the eyes within 3-4 years changes from blue, which gradually turns into yellow. Over time, they become amber, then - walnut. And their final color is green. The same thing happens with coat color.
Bark character and behavior
The Korat cat is a temperamental and friendly creature. She is very attached to the household, loves their affection and attention. "Cheerful charm" - so often its owners speak about the korat, with this pet there will be no place for sadness in the house.
But at the same time, the cat is very jealous. She will not be able to get along with other breeds of cats. True, there are sometimes exceptions for their breed. But with dogs, if they have a calm, peaceful character, they will be friends willingly.
Raising a cat should start early, and it is better if this takes place in a small company of two adults old enough so that by the age of five months she is used to the company of the owners, otherwise the animal may become feral.
The kitty is smart and understanding, but you should not violate the recommended approach to education, and you will get a wonderful and calm companion, whose eyes nothing will slip past.
With good mobility, the Korat still does not like sudden noise or turmoil. The owners can easily read her desires by her cute expressive muzzle. And if this is not enough, the cat will help to understand it with the help of sounds, the range of which is quite impressive.
Korat health and care
The Korat breed is quite healthy. But in some types it is very rare, but there are genetic mutations from the poor inheritance of the parents, which can lead to the death of the animal.
The maturation of cats takes a relatively long time and can take up to 4-5 years, until the color of the eyes stops at bright green, and the color of the coat acquires a unique silver hue.
Well, caring for a cat is quite simple, because her hair is short, which means that it is enough to comb it out once a week.
