Why do Sphynx cats like to hide?
If you have a Sphynx cat, then you have probably noticed that she loves to hide. And it doesn't matter where. She may choose a place under an armchair, in some box or behind the curtains, or she may even watch you from above. Have you ever wondered why this happens? Do you think she's daring you to play with her? No, everything turns out to be wrong. This is inherent in it by nature.
Why do Sphynx cats hide?
This behavior of cats interested scientists. In the Netherlands, experiments were even conducted to find out what makes cats hide in confined spaces, seemingly in a safe home among loving owners. In nature, such phenomena are easier to explain - protection from dangerous predators. But what makes these adorable creatures hide from their benevolent owners? It turns out that according to the findings of the Dutch studying the behavior of animals in shelters, cats thus try to overcome stress. At home, stress levels are much lower, so cats are calmer and hide much less often. They prefer to lie on an armchair or on the bed of their owners, if the pet is allowed to do so. But as soon as you start driving her away from the place she has chosen and is cozy, the cat will find a more reliable shelter for herself, away from the eyes of the owner.
Another reason for the desire of cats to hide is, as experiments by the same scientists have shown, cats love dense, enclosed spaces, since they are warmer and they have to expend less energy to maintain the desired body temperature.
And in the wild, the animal hid to lie in wait for its prey. Have you ever watched a cat stalk a mouse? This little predator is smart enough: so that potential prey does not notice it, it must hide.
Where do cats hide?
It is difficult to answer this question unequivocally. Just watch your pet. Also, for the experiment, place a cardboard box in a place accessible to it (any kind, as long as the animal fits there). We are sure that the cat will like this shelter. By the way, cardboard has good thermal insulation properties, which is very suitable for this cute creature of nature.
Some observers have noticed another property of boxes that many cats like - they like everything that rustles. In a cardboard box, when a cat starts “digging” in it, its favorite sound is quite loud and pleasant, which is achieved by the echo from the walls.
Sphynx cats are naturally playful, especially at an early age. A tunnel (a sleeve made of fur or other soft fabric) can be a good shelter for them. In such a shelter the animal will be warm, comfortable and calm. And if several branches with exits are provided in the tunnels, then this will help a playful animal have fun, especially if a foil lining is sewn into the tunnels, which creates a rustling sound when the cat moves. This kind of fun will distract the cat from the dangerous games with plastic bags that they like. After all, if a cat swallows pieces of cellophane, it can end badly for both it and its owners.
In addition, cats like to hide in suitcases, under the bed, under the bathtub, and in closets. They can get into bags, packages and even unsafe places, such as the washing machine. You try to deprive them of this pleasure so as not to create unnecessary problems for yourself. And to do this, purchase a reliable shelter for your pet - a cat house. Various pet stores offer them in sufficient quantities. And even your eyes widen when choosing them - a variety of colorful houses, tunnels, deckchairs...Choose according to your taste and financial capabilities!
