Diseases of Sphynx cats
Sphynx cats have fairly good health. Adult representatives of the breed rarely get sick. In the case of infectious diseases, the disease is easily tolerated and immunity is maintained for a long time. Partly...
Predisposition to another eye disease - congenital entropion of the eyelids - is caused by the peculiarity of the structure of the eyelids of cats, their density and massiveness. In this case, surgical intervention is necessary, since improvement is observed only in rare cases with age.
Due to the fact that cats are hairless and their skin secretes a large amount of sebum, it is quite possible for Sphynx cats to suffer from acne. This is especially typical for young animals during puberty. Predisposed to this disease are often cats that are completely devoid of fur of a certain color: blue, cream and red, but flocked animals rarely get sick. For treatment, you can use Zinerit or Clindamycin (1% liniment and lotion). It is necessary to exclude the animal from exposure to the sun. In very severe and advanced cases, they resort to castration.
Another disease of Sphynx cats is the increased likelihood of hereditary diseases such as myopathy (a chronic progressive neuromuscular disease) or hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (a heart disease characterized by asymmetric thickening of the walls of the ventricle). Another complex genetic disease is airway obstruction (respiratory tract obstruction syndrome). This disease often causes the death of an animal due to problems in swallowing food. But since the disease is associated with recessive genes, it is difficult to fight.
