What to do with burns in a Sphynx cat
It is not a secret for any of the Sphynx cat owners that these animals are very curious. They need to stick their beautiful nose, and sometimes their paw, into whatever. And this excessive curiosity, no matter how well we try to educate our pets, can also lead to an accident associated with burns. Therefore, the owners simply need to take care of the safety of their pets, but, unfortunately, they do not always do this.
This article tells you what to do if your cat has been burned. About the fact that you need to immediately contact the veterinary clinic, all owners understand. However, the cat needs first aid immediately, because while you take the pet to the clinic, time will pass, and the cat hurts, and the burn requires immediate treatment.
First, consider what burns can be, because first aid methods depend directly on this.
Thermal burns
Such burns are associated with the effect of hot on the animal's skin. It can be a burn with hot steam or boiling water. Often, when the owners cook food on the stove, the cat is spinning under their feet, and therefore splashes of boiling hot oil can also get on it. And in nature or in other places with an open flame, the pet must be monitored especially carefully so that the flame does not cause, to put it mildly, troubles that will create problems for you and can ruin your vacation. After all, the animal is attracted to delicious smells and there is an irresistible desire to pull off something tasty.
Burns due to electric shock
Cats, when playing, love to chew on something. And the worst thing is if it turns out to be an electrical wire connected to the network. When you try to gnaw it, the consequences can be very serious - swelling of the larynx and lungs.
Chemical burns
This type of burn is the most rare, but one of the most severe. Such a burn occurs when acids, alkalis, strong concentrated cleaning agents get on the animal's skin, mucous surfaces (eye or inside).
What to do with burns?
In case of a thermal burn, immediately cold water should be poured over the affected area of the body (it is better to place the cat under the tap for 10-15 minutes). After that, treat this area with a solution of potassium permanganate, and then you need to make a compress - apply a wet cold napkin, and, if the doctor was not called, take the animal, changing the compress.
In case of a burn from an electric current, it is clear that you need to turn off the current and pick up the animal from the place of injury. If you cannot turn off the current, you need to move the injured pet away with something wooden (you can use a broom). And call an ambulance (of course, a veterinarian). In the meantime, prepare a weak solution of furacilin (potassium permanganate is also suitable) and treat burns with it. If it is not possible to call a doctor, wrap the animal warmly and quickly and take it to the veterinarian to prevent swelling, if it has not yet developed, or remove it.
In case of a chemical burn, the burnt area is washed with water. Try to install, and faster than the specific Sphynx cat got burned. If an acidic substance, then wash the burn with water and soda or another alkali solution. Alkali burns, on the contrary, are neutralized with an acid (possibly acetic) solution. After that, treat the burned area with an antiseptic and take your pet to the doctor, because he needs anesthesia.
And remember the main thing - the degree of damage to the animal can only be determined by a doctor. Do not hesitate to visit and follow his recommendations.
