How to train a cat?
Most of us think that training Sphynx cats is a waste of time, since cats are difficult to train, but this is not entirely true if you approach this issue correctly.
At the age of 8-9 months, you can begin training a Sphynx kitten. Your beloved pet has already matured and will correctly understand and carry out your commands.
Before starting training, you need to observe the animal to determine what the kitten is predisposed to, in order to understand what tricks you can teach it. For example, a kitten carries toys in its teeth, which means that it can easily learn to fetch objects, or a kitten likes to climb and jump on objects, then your pet will easily learn to jump over a barrier or jump on your shoulder. Once the kitten’s predisposition is determined, we begin training.
Remember, training Sphynx cats should be done without coercion. You won’t be able to force a cat to do something it doesn’t want to do; immediately eliminate tricks that the animal doesn’t like. All your efforts will be useless if the kitten is afraid of you, doesn’t like you, doesn’t trust you; in this case, you won’t be able to subdue or bribe the animal with treats.
The main rule of training is patience; there is no need to persistently force the cat to do this or that exercise; in most cases, it is enough to wait a little while the animal performs the action you need. Let your cat understand and remember what your commands sound like, and after correct execution, don’t forget to reward her with her favorite treat. Also, do not forget to praise the cat, then it will carry out commands with pleasure.
You can start training a cat with a simple command: “come to me.” It is very easy to teach an animal this command - the cat will respond to such a command if it knows that it will be given something tasty. The command should sound easy and fun, while the cat should be called by name and as soon as your pet appears, give it “yummy" The command is practiced until the cat is completely accustomed to it.
The “sit” command requires patience here. Practice this exercise: put the cat on the floor and wait until it sits down on its own, after which you immediately need to say the command “sit”. If the cat correctly understands the command, reward it; if it begins to be stubborn and does not want to sit down, lightly press on the back of the body with your hand, while saying the command “sit”.
After the cat has mastered the “sit” command well, you can teach the cat to give a paw. When the cat is in a sitting position, take any front paw and command: “Give me your paw” and immediately give “yummy" Repeat the exercise until the animal gets used to the command and begins to lay down paw on your palm.
The command “Bring it!” When training your cat, start with the item that the cat likes to wear most.
In addition to these simple commands, you can teach the animal more complex tricks, the main thing is not to force the cat, everything should happen as desired. There are times when it is worth putting off training a Sphynx cat for a while so as not to interrupt the desire to train.
