German Rex cat
The breed discussed in this article belongs to one of the very first short-haired breeds with curly hair. Its seemingly menacing name, the German Rex, is more likely due to the fact that this amazing cat comes from East Prussia, and “rex” translated from Latin (rex) means “king”. If you take a closer look at the animal’s gaze, you will certainly find something royal and wise in it in combination with an expressive, stern face that slightly protrudes forward. Well, “menacing” is not at all about the German Rex.
How did the breed appear?
This domestic breed of beautiful cats with curly, plush-like fur is descended from a Russian blue mother cat and a Persian father. The crossing of breeds happened completely by accident, because its owners did not understand felinology at all. But the kittens that were born were unusual. One of the Prussian breeders heard about their unique curly fur. He took the babies with the consent of the owners, laying the foundation for a new smart and cute cat breed.
After the occupation of Germany, soldiers from the Allied forces, wanting to bring home interesting representatives of the European animal world, helped the German Rex quickly gain popularity in many countries. And today this breed of cats in the world is among the TOP 100 most popular breeds.
What is good about the breed?
To do this, you need to see the cat. And when you see her, she will delight you with her uniqueness: her eyes with a rich and pure color, her silky soft plain coat with characteristic curls. German diligence and Russian friendliness are perfectly intertwined in the animal. In addition, cats are very active and playful. Constantly in a good mood, the owners' favorite often purrs under her breath, as if she were singing some kind of song that only she understands. Or maybe it’s just her way of communicating with her owners? But only the owner of a musical gift knows this. The owners must definitely show attention to the “singer”; she will really like it. And this musical person will be happy to watch TV with her owners and play with the children. So express your love in other ways. And it’s also worth keeping in mind that a cat can catch fish in a pond and bring it home, and therefore can become a good “helper” for its owners.
