If you want to make friends with your cat, if you want him to follow you around, learn to play with him. A dog gets used to a person much faster than a Sphynx cat. Methods such as feeding, affectionate and constant stroking, even against the fur, and not against it, will not give the same effect as games. Especially with kittens. And from childhood, adaptation to the owner begins.
We must learn to offer games for sphinxes that are not those which you like, and those that your friend likes it. Imagine offering a quiet walk to your timid cat, or, conversely, trying to run wildly with her. Remember that a cat will not play if the game evokes ordinary life emotions in it, and not play emotions.
You need to know that cats, even when playing, get physically tired very quickly. Hence the conclusion: long games are not for them. It is also very important to provide an opportunity for your cat to stop playing. Next time she will go to the game much more willingly.
Where to play so as not to break your grandmother’s crystal vase, not to get into a mirror or window glass is your concern, not your cat’s. They must be accustomed to order: to play where they can. If you play with them in the same place, they will quickly get used to it and will look for it to play with you. The best place is the floor, or even a sofa or ottoman. Kids especially love to play here, because climbing on top of their owner seems like conquering a mountain.
If you see the owner or mistress of a sphinx with skinned hands, know that it is not the cat who is to blame. It was the owners who played with them, holding out their hands, turning the kittens over with their hands, and the kittens biting and scratching them. Here is the result.
You should also keep in mind that Sphynx cats love to play with themselves, you just need to create the conditions for this. This means that kittens and even adult cats should have toys. They will happily play with a bottle cap for hours, especially if you tie it with a string so that it dangles. It could be shiny foil, but threads in a ball are generally an irreplaceable toy. People love a change of environment, and so do your pets: take away some toys, and give them back in a week or two.
Tie a small ball, or a twisted rag, or a piece of fur to the thread. Even better if you hang it with an elastic band. And it’s even better if the hanging toys make some sounds: the cat touched it with its paw, and it squeaked or whistled. You can give the ball your favorite scent by dropping, for example, valerian on it.
You also need to think about the safety of your friend: after all, they can get tangled in a ribbon or string, freeze. Therefore, you need to use safe toys. Give the spool not together with the threads, but when it is freed from them. Give large plastic stoppers so they don't swallow them. Make boxes with holes for climbing from cardboard, they will not get hurt by them. And so on, that is, one must always foresee how a toy can be dangerous.
These include, for example, toys with sharp edges; balls of woolen threads; don't give them plastic bags; all sorts of ribbons, strings that will tighten around the neck or tummy. Everything is exactly the same as you do for children who can swallow, bite and unknown what it will flow from there, and so on.
Try to repeat the somersaults they like, all sorts of tricks, and carry out the simplest commands as often as possible. All this will make it possible to train a Sphynx cat through play.
Now there is a sea of all kinds of materials for making toys yourself. The same cardboard cube has no price; both young and old love it. You know that some cats, especially kittens, when left alone, turn everything into shreds, tear up wallpaper, upholstery. And just because they don't have toys, they have nothing to do. The owner did not make a stand for cleaning claws, and so on. Leave them a tennis ball and more than one, it makes a sound that kittens especially like. But leave a carpet where there is no carpet.
By the way, have you tried putting this ball in an egg carton and rolling it from one cell to another? Try it, you will see that your friend will spend hours with you, trying to get the ball out of there.
A laser pointer is a good toy for a Sphynx cat. Move it along the wall, along the floor, and your cat will react right there: no matter how randomly you move it, she will try to catch this sunbeam. Especially if you turn down the light a little and the bunny will be clearly visible. But! Don't shine in the eyes, especially of a kitten.
When you are cleaning, tie a ribbon to your hand, or a piece of paper crumpled into a ball with an elastic band to make noise. You will be busy, and your friend will be busy.
And the so-called “fishing rod” is well known to both owners and cats: you tie a ball, any ball, to a stick with an elastic band or ribbon and go for a ride. There will be no end to this game for a long time.
Many toys are now sold in pet stores. Take your time to buy them, look at them and you will do more than half yourself.
And one more thing: a sea of games for your friends can now be found on your computer, even on your tablet and smartphone. Cats and Sphynx cats play with them for a long time and with great pleasure. Just understand one thing: this is necessary for them, this is their life. And if you took them for yourself, then please find time to work with them.
